An on-demand app for your marijuana dispensary: what you need to know

The Benefits Of Using A Marijuana On Demand App To Drive Business To Your Dispensary

Now that marijuana is officially legal across Canada, you can expect to see more and more dispensaries and storefronts popping up on a regular basis (in provinces where this is allowed, of course – in Ontario, for example, marijuana sales will be online-only until April 2019 minimum). And because the marijuana industry is expected to see a huge boom over the next few months and years, it stands to reason that dispensary owners may want to consider adding the development of an on-demand app into their overall plans.

The question is: is the marriage between a marijuana dispensary and an on-demand mobile app as big of a slam dunk as it seems? Here’s some food for thought:

Pick-up, delivery, or both?

Arguably, the most important element of an on-demand app in the eyes of the end user is the level of convenience that it offers. And when it comes to marijuana, it’s a safe bet that the majority of your customers will opt for a delivery option if it’s available. However – it’s important to note that not all provinces and territories in Canada have included regular delivery service as part of the new laws, so be sure that you’re aware of your area’s stance on the matter before implementing it as an option in your on-demand app.

This is why it’s important to also include an option for pick-up. With this, the customer can easily and securely place their order, and then come to your dispensary to pick it up at their leisure. To confirm their purchase, you can choose to ask for ID, or implement an option that will provide them with a unique barcode on their smartphone that you can scan when they come to pick up.

Cash isn’t always king

While there’s certainly nothing wrong with accepting cash at your dispensary, you’ll greatly cut down on headaches and the potential threat of theft from employees if a large percentage of your sales come electronically through an on-demand app. In addition, all of the transactions made will be easily trackable on your app’s Dashboard.

Stand out from the rest

As we stated previously, the number of marijuana dispensaries and storefronts is going to grow exponentially over the next few years. If you’re the current owner of one or you’re planning on getting into the industry, it’s important to do everything in your power that will put you ahead of the rest of the pack. An on-demand app is the perfect way to do this!
